26 Budokanis competed in the Central Coast Open, the final selection event for the 2018 State Team to the Nationals. They won 17 medals: 8 Gold, 5 silver, and 4 Bronze medals! This was a great turnout from the club and a great opportunity to have one last competition before State Squad starts and we build up to the Nationals. Athletes should never underestimate the value and benefit of any competition and the possible lessons learned and experience gained. Well done to Clarissa and Jacinta Vumbaca on taking up the challenge of competing in your first event and showing a lot of potential. Special mention to Casey Eamer who had no opposition in her Special Needs division and competed in Senior Women U/78kg winning a match against a Green Belt and losing to 2 black belts and a brown belt. Amazing Judo in U/27kg Senior Boys division with Crosby Peake, Nicholos Platonov and Sean Goldthorpe showing some incredibly mature Judo way beyond their years and some really spirited matches. Thanks to Dale, Andras, Amber and Nathan who helped us coach all our athletes. Thanks always to Lubo Petr for refereeing during the day and to our positive and supportive families who came to provide enthusiastic encouragement to our competing athletes.
