INTERNATIONAL & REPRESENTATIONAL UPDATE - Belgium Open (Vise, 3 – 4 Feb 18)

Kyle McIndoe:  Having completed his training block and enjoying the quality training and facilities at the Dutch National Training Centre in Papendal, Netherlands, Kyle competed in the Belgium Open. A big competition with over 60 entrants in 66kg Men.  Unfortunately the competition wasn’t streamed.  Kyle’s first match was against a Belgian lad for which we had no information. He won that match by Ippon with Uchi-Mata in 1 min 10 secs which was a great start. His second match was against the strong left Frenchman Bouda who came 2nd at the same event in 2017 and won his first match against Netherlands. Kyle reports that he was down Waza-Ari and had to chase for much of the match. He said referees called matte too early on a few occasions which broke the flow of the match and resulted in missed opportunities. Kyle felt competitive but also that FRA was just a bit quicker to the attack. Chasing him hard, Kyle was caught for Ippon just before full time.  Bouda won his next round against Germany to get to the Quarter-Final but lost that match to Argentina. In Repechage, Bouda won his next 3 matches for Bronze. More good experience for Kyle, who will do his next training block at Grosshadern in Munich Germany before coming home for the Queensland Open.
