PETER HERRMANN – AUSTRALIA’S FIRST 10TH

We have the honour of being invited to a celebration of Peter Herrmann’s promotion to 10th Dan. Peter has lived in Australia for over 40 years and came to us as the National Technical Director. As an athlete in the 1960s he won a Silver and 2 Bronze medals at World Championships, 2 Golds as well as Silver and Bronze in European Championships and numerous wins and placings in other international competitions. For 8 years, he was undefeated in the German Nationals. As a coach he moved to France and for over 10 years was the National Coach lifting the French team to a very high level. He coached, among many others, Jean-Luc Rougé (FRA), who is now also a 10th Dan and Director of the IJF, and who also became the first ever French world champion in 1975. After coming to Australia and as technical Director, Peter was also National Coach for many events and ran many National Training Camps at the AIS. Kerrye and I had the pleasure of working under him as athletes and he also assisted me greatly when I moved into coaching in the late 80s. Peter is the first Oceania Judoka to be promoted to 10th Dan and it will be an honour for us to attend the presentation on Saturday 26th October.
