DROPPING OFF & PICKING UP YOUR KIDS SAFELY

A request to parents of Budokan kids training on Tuesday and Thursday nights:

  • It is of great concern to the Club Committee that some parents are stopping their cars in the middle of the road in front of the club to drop off and pick up kids participating in these classes. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PRACTICE, PUTS YOUR KIDS AND OTHER KIDS AT RISK  AND IS UNACCEPTABLE – PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS AGAIN. Please allow time to park your car and accompany your kids to the door of the club – these are busy times for the club and there are sometimes other cars using this road. When parking your cars on these nights, please be mindful of the need for other parents to park (and Seniors arriving for their session), so please park with consideration to allow as many spaces as possible to be available for other club members.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Welcome to all new members. We hope that you are enjoying your Judo experience at Budokan. Our membership has remained stable over the last month at 207 which is encouraging as is our class attendance in each age group.  Another reminder to our club members to please keep track of your Judo NSW membership renewal date and your Budokan club training fee anniversary date. We do not have a formal reminder system in place and following up over 200 members is just not practical for our volunteers.

  • Highlights in the last month include our club presentation on the 17th August when we recognised our National Champions, our NSW State Team representatives, and our international representatives. Our special guests The Mayor of the Hills Shire Clr Dr Peter Gangemi and Blacktown City Councillor and former club member Michael Stubley, helped to make this event as special as it should be. They spoke very highly of the club and showed their knowledge and genuine interest in our achievements which was very heartening. They also stayed for almost all of the Senior class following the presentation. This was a great occasion to appropriately acknowledge our club’s athletes who have set high goals and committed to them, and who have invested a strong effort toward their achievement.

  • This newsletter also covers the achievements of a number of our athletes who have competed successfully in both international and domestic competitions and we are very proud of these elite athletes.

  • Our AGM is coming up on the 6th November and a notice of the meeting is attached to the email accompanying this Newsletter.  Our Annual Club Awards Night and Annual Christmas party events are also coming up in the next couple of months – how quickly the year is moving forward! Please let me know if you have any news that you want to share in future newsletters.  Enjoy the Newsletter and “See you on the mat”.

BUDOKAN MONS / JUNIOR TOURNAMENT (6TH AUGUST)

Budokan held its 25th Junior NSW competition for Mons and Junior Boys and Girls age categories on Sunday 6th  August, the first we’ve been able to run in over 2 years.51 Mons and Junior athletes from 3 clubs (Budokan, OKO and UTS) participated in 18 divisions with 96 matches contested plus a Mons teams event. Given this was the first Mons/Junior competition hosted by the club in 2 years, the participation from other NSW clubs was quite disappointing and also puzzling. All club coaches indicate a desire for more of this style of competition (i.e. with an educational element included for novice and graded Mons and Juniors) but then don't seem to encourage participation. Despite this, we will push harder for the next event and hopefully more kids can enjoy the positive atmosphere experienced by all the athletes and parents at the club event. Thanks to OKO and UTS Judo clubs for your support, to the NSW referees who attended and who coached our young referees, and to Martial Arts Tatami Mats / Rusty Sports, for donating the Judogis for Player of the Day awards and the raffle. Thanks to all the fantastic Budokan parents and members who made running the event so easy, and to all the young Judoka who participated - great effort. Results follow:

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Welcome to all new members. We hope that you are enjoying your Judo experience at Budokan. Over the last few months there has been a healthy trend in our membership with numbers creeping as high as 207.  Please ensure that you stay financial with Judo NSW and keep track of when your club training fees are due. This is very important as we do not have a formal reminder system in place and following up over 200 members would be very time consuming.

  • This Newsletter is the one I promised in July’s Newsletter where I needed to catch up on reporting against older events including the Nationals. So we’re covering the news and events since May and also any upcoming events. We’re really looking forward to this Thursday night’s (17th August) club presentation when we will be continuing our tradition of recognising our National Champions, our NSW State Team representatives, and our international representatives. Please join us in recognising those in the club who set high goals, commit to them, and invest a strong effort toward their achievement.

  • Since the last Newsletter, we also ran our annual Budokan NSW Mons & Junior competition. As usual it ran like clockwork and a special thanks to all club members who pitched in to set up and help run the event.

This Newsletter is a bit longer than most and hopefully there aren’t too many errors or omissions – let me know if you find any.  Also please let me know if you have any news that you want to share in future newsletters.  Enjoy the Newsletter and “See you on the mat”.                                       Rob K
