RETURN OF ANNUAL AWARD NIGHT PERPETUAL TROPHIES

Please return all Budokan Annual Award perpetual trophies so they can be displayed in the cabinet and also so that they will be available when we prepare for the end of year awards function. These trophies are the large ones which have a list of all the previous winners. Winners of these trophies also received a smaller individual trophy which they can keep. If in any doubt please ask Kerrye or Rob.

BRIGHT START KIDZ ACADEMY SCHOOL HOLIDAY CLINIC

Well done to seniors Will Zollinger and Phoenix Edwards who ran a school holiday clinic at the club for the Bright Start Kidz academy during the last holidays. Attendees received a promotional offer should they wish to pick up Judo as a sport at the club in the future. These opportunities are a great introduction to Judo and provide a positive service and exposure of the club to the local community. Let me know if your school would like an introductory Judo clinic and we can see what we can do to support this.

BUDOKAN MONS / JUNIOR TOURNAMENT (6TH AUGUST)

Budokan will be holding its 25th Junior NSW competition for Mons and Junior Boys and Girls age categories next Sunday 6th August and the first time we are running this event in over 2 years.

  • Mons and Junior weigh-ins will be staggered. Although there are allocated weight divisions these will be used as a guide and weight divisions will be determined on the day to optimise participation. Novice grades divisions will be provided, minimum grade White-Yellow Belt. Minimum age is turning 6 years in 2023.

  • We need volunteers for many of the available roles. Please assist wherever you can, especially the more experienced members and parents who can also help new people to be trained. The Volunteer sheet is available on the main table at the club. A notice is attached to the email enclosing this newsletter as well as instructions for Key Roles.   Entry for this competition is ONLY at the door – cash only payment.

  • We will also be running a fund-raising raffle at the competition, so could each family bring something that could be used to create hampers as prizes. These can be left at the club on the table at the back of the hall.

Finally, we will need to set up the hall on Saturday 5th August (tables on the mat, weigh-in room/scales, trophies, chairs, kitchen, BBQ etc). Normally this occurs during the club training sessions between 2.30pm and 5.00pm. However, this weekend the NSW Junior and Senior Development Squads are scheduled between 3.00 and 5.00pm although the times have not yet been confirmed. To minimise the impact on these sessions, we will tentatively schedule the setup for 12.00pm.

PRESENTATION OF NATIONAL CHAMPIONS (17TH AUGUST)

On Thursday night (17th August) between the Junior and Senior classes, we will be pleased to welcome to the club the Federal Member for Mitchell, The Hon. Alex Hawke MP, the Mayor of the Hills Shire Dr Peter Gangemi and former club member Blacktown City Councillor Michael Stubley. For many years It has been a tradition for the club to present the club members who represented NSW at the Nationals to the whole club. At this time we also present specially minted medallions (from the Perth Mint) to the National Champions to recognise their achievement. This year represents the 17th time that we will present these medallions and it has become an important event to recognise those in the club who set high goals, commit to them, and invest a strong effort toward their achievement.

  • When: Thursday 17th August
  • Where: the club
  • Time: 7.15pm – 7.45pm between the Junior and Senior sessions.
  • Who: All Juniors and Seniors and Coaches – please wear white Judogis and bring National medals
