BUDOKAN JUDO CLUB ATHLETE PRESENTATION – 7TH DECEMBER

At the 2021 Nationals, Budokan’s 22 athletes competed in 32 divisions winning 21 medals:

  • 7 x Gold, 6 x Silver, and 8 x Bronze

Additionally, we had 5 athletes contest 9 divisions in Kyu Grades, Masters and No Limits winning 5 medals

  • 4 Gold and 1 Silver medal.

In total, 27 athletes contested 41 divisions winning 26 medals:

  • 11 Gold, 7 Silver and 8 Bronze medals

Finally 8 Budokan athletes competed in 7 Kata divisions winning:

  • 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.

 A highlight of this competition year was that two club members participated in the Tokyo Olympic Games. Some of our newer members may not be aware of this, but it has been a tradition for many years for the club to present to all club member, those club athletes who represented NSW at the Nationals, and also to present specially minted medallions (from the Perth Mint) to the club’s National Champions to recognise their achievement. This year, our 20th year of competing at the Nationals, 15 medallions will be presented to club members.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 We will also be paying tribute to our representatives to the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              The current Mayor of the Hills Shire and strong club supporter, Dr Michelle Byrne will be making the presentations.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      The presentation will occur between the Junior and Senior classes on Tuesday 7th December between 7.15 and 7.45pm. Classes will run as normal on the night.  Seniors, please arrive early.

END OF YEAR FUNCTION – RYDE AQUATIC LEISURE CENTRE – SATURDAY 4TH DECEMBER

Given the low tempo of activities again this year, whilst we won’t be having our Annual Awards Night, we will be having a social event at Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre (for something completely different) located at 504 Victoria Road Ryde, and separately, a small presentation at the club, which covered in the next section. 

  • We have booked the Ryde Aquatic Centre for Budokan’s exclusive use between 6.00 and 9.00pm, including the water slide, wave pool and giant inflatable. All family members are welcome.
  • We currently have about 135 people coming and must know final numbers by Wednesday 1st December, so there is still time if you’re now free to come.

Some things you need to know about the evening:

  • PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO ENTER THE VENUE BEFORE 6.00pm or you will be charged entry.
  • The general public will be cleared from the venue before we can enter at 6.00pm
  • No entry will be allowed after 7.00pm
  • Club members can’t come and go from the venue after entry
  • We must leave when the centre closes at 9.00pm 
  • The club will be providing some food, but not drink – the kiosk will also not be open
  • You can bring your own drink and food (just not in glass containers)

NATIONAL HIGH PERFORMANCE PROGRAM SELECTIONS

Congratulations to Nathan and Josh Katz who remain under the sport-industry wide National Categorisation Framework as Australia’s Winning Edge (AWE) categorised athletes meeting the performance requirements for the high-performance program delivered and funded by the Combat Institute of Australia (Combat AUS).                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Congratulations also to Clarissa Vumbaca and Will Zollinger on their selection to the Judo Australia (JA) High Performance program via the JA Cadet Development Squad .                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Budokan Judo Club has a long history of young athletes being selected for National development programs from National Talent Identification (NTID) to Australia’s Winning Edge (AWE) categorisation. Great opportunities ahead for our athletes. Well done guys! 

BACK TO TRAINING

This is our sixth week back on the mat and our class sizes have again been surprisingly good. We have also had many new enquiries which is encouraging and our total membership currently sits at 237. We are still to see many of our members return to the mat but we can assure you that we are still complying with entry procedures, class sizes and social distancing off the mat. If you have any concerns, please contact Rob. Wednesday Dino pre-school classes will resume next year and we are reviewing the best format for the Saturday class for next year.
