Judo NSW Registration and Club Training Fees

  • Club Training Fees. Please don’t forget that the club training fees will be on hold for the full duration of the club’s closure so anniversary dates for your renewal of club training fees will be extended until our return date of 18th October. If you don’t intend to return during that week, please advise Kelly McPherson asap at kellymc80@optusnet.com.au or me at katzfamily@iinet.net.au so we can record your intended return date.  Otherwise, we will have to assume that you are returning on the week of the 18th and invoicing will take effect from then.

  • Annual Judo NSW Fees. Judo NSW advised some time ago that they had placed annual registrations on hold and extended memberships for a period. I am awaiting further advice on any additional credits to membership given the return date for most clubs is now known to be 18th October. Having said that, if your Judo NSW membership has expired, please renew it before returning to the mat. Please do not come to training or send your child to training unless you/they are financial with Judo NSW.

Zoom Classes

When I last wrote, we had already been off the mat for 6 weeks and the club had run 10 zoom sessions over 3 weeks.  10 weeks later by the time we return to the mat on the 18th, Budokan will have run 4 months of Zoom classes: 11 Mons classes (Jarrad), 30 Senior classes (Rob), including Beginner/Kyu Grade Mondays (Liam), and 21 Junior classes (Kerrye, Nathan and Josh), in total 62 classes in 13 weeks. The club thanks and greatly appreciates all the coaches who ran these sessions and who maintained energy, enthusiasm, and creativity under difficult circumstances. Also, thank you from all the coaches to all the club’s athletes who regularly participated in these classes.  Your support has been greatly appreciated and helped to motivate us to continue with the classes. We hope that participating in them gave you a valuable break from school/uni/work, allowed you to catch up with your club-mates, and will also help make the transition back to the mat a little easier, having done some regular fitness and Judo drill work.

  • Please Note: Next week, Zoom sessions for Monday Beginners/Kyu Grades, Tuesday Seniors and Wednesday Mons will still be held. There will no Zoom classes for Juniors on Tuesday and Thursday, or Seniors on Thursday.

Budokan Supports Behzad (Bez) Fakhroldin, Judo NSW Referee

Those of us who participate in Australian Judo competitions would know Bez very well - he is a true gentleman and a great referee. Many would also know that over the last couple of years he has been through the wars with his health resulting in a heart transplant and many complications. All of us at Budokan wish Bez strength and hope that he makes a solid recovery.

NATHAN KATZ – 2 X OLYMPIAN - TOKYO 2020 OLYMPIC GAMES

The following is the post I made on facebook after Nathan fought in Tokyo.

  • “So there it is....with a ridiculously short timeframe within which to prepare, and a bit of a slow start in his first match against the higher ranked Peruvian who beat him 3 years ago, Nathan Katz demonstrated what it is to fight with a full heart and leave nothing on the mat. A great ippon-scoring throw to win his first match getting him into the round of 16 and then a solid match against the very physical World #8 Israeli to go the distance giving his all to full time and losing only by Wazari. Unfortunately this put Nathan out of the competition but he can and will hold his head high. As is the case for all of #teamkatz , Budokan Judo Club, Castle Hill, NSW, Australia / Budokan Judo, and all our Judo friends, friends and family, he should also be very, very proud. Massive thanks to National Coach Daniel Kelly (honorary TeamKatz member) for a huge effort in helping to bring out the best Judo in Nathan, to Josh Katz for being an amazing son, brother and training partner, and to all those who have supported Team Katz - Rio Olympians throughout the whole journey. We are grateful.

But the journey is far from over. Lessons have been learned and there is much to do, after a good, solid well-deserved rest. Meanwhile onwards and upwards for Judo Australia Olympic team-mates Katharina Hä (Haecker) and Aoife Coughlan fighting on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. What a team - whatever it takes”.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Katharina and Aoife also fought their hearts out both winning their first matches making the Round of 16. AMAZING COMMITMENT…AMAZING EFFORT…AMAZING PERFORMANCE
