Congratulations to all 48 Budokan athletes who entered the last NSW competition for the year. Special congratulations to those athletes who stepped up to the competition stage for the very first time. The benefit of this series of events is that divisions are split not only by age and weight but also by experience levels. Our athletes competed in 53 divisions with a number of athletes entering multiple age categories, the highest number of matches played was 10 by Flynn who competed in 3 age categories. A few athletes had 6 or more matches. A long day from 8.00am to nearly 6.00pm but great experience for everyone. Thanks to all the club coaches: Rob, Kerrye, Dale, Cathy, Liam, and Jarrad who ran the Mons warmup for all competitors. 232 medals were awarded on the day, 89 of them Gold and Budokan won nearly 18% of both total medals awarded and Gold medals, a great result.

The Virtus Oceania Asia Games 2022 5-11Nov22:This Games is an international multi-sport competition for elite athletes with an intellectual impairment. Budokan Judo Club has always been proud of its diversity and inclusivity and is on this occasion proud that Bernhard Tandean and Lynne McCredden qualified and competed successfully at this event, with Bernhard winning a Gold medal and Lynne winning a Silver medal. Budokan Committee member Franz Tandean was also Australian Team Manager. Congratulations guys.
2022 Kata World Championships, Krakow Poland – 13–14 Sep22:Although posted on our Facebook pages I somehow missed reporting the following in our October Newsletter. Congratulations to Team Budokan's Bjorn Tandean and Bernhard Tandean on their well-earned Bronze medal at the World Kata Championships in the Junior category of Katame-No-Kata (Ne-Waza or groundwork kata). We are very proud of you guys and very happy for your achievement. This result represents the first medal at a World Kata Championships for the Oceania region. As mentioned in the September Newsletter, as a strong (Shiai/combat) competition club, Budokan is proud to also have a core support for Kata learning and competition.
