JUDO NSW COMMUNITY SERIES #4 – 13NOV22

Congratulations to all 48 Budokan athletes who entered the last NSW competition for the year. Special congratulations to those athletes who stepped up to the competition stage for the very first time. The benefit of this series of events is that divisions are split not only by age and weight but also by experience levels. Our athletes competed in 53 divisions with a number of athletes entering multiple age categories, the highest number of matches played was 10 by Flynn who competed in 3 age categories. A few athletes had 6 or more matches. A long day from 8.00am to nearly 6.00pm but great experience for everyone. Thanks to all the club coaches: Rob, Kerrye, Dale, Cathy, Liam, and Jarrad who ran the Mons warmup for all competitors. 232 medals were awarded on the day, 89 of them Gold and Budokan won nearly 18% of both total medals awarded and Gold medals, a great result.

INTERNATIONAL UPDATE2022 Perth Senior Oceania Open (Grand Prix Olympic Qualifying points) and the Perth Cadet and Junior Oceania Cup – 29th -31st October

The Oceania Open (Grand Prix) for Seniors was held in Perth just 3 weeks ago

  • Nathan Katz competed in the Oceania Open in which 32 countries contested.  Nathan won 2 of his 4 matches, including 6 minute and 4 minute golden score matches, one of which was fighting for a Bronze medal which he narrowly lost. Although he was very disappointed in missing the Bronze, a 5th place result and 252 Olympic Qualifying points represents a great effort.  Nathan is now in his final preparations for the Tokyo Grand Slam where he will compete on Sunday 4th December. We will hi all the very best for this competition.

In the Oceania Cup for Cadets and Juniors, in which 8 countries participated, Budokan athletes fought with the following results:

  • Phoenix Edwards – Gold medal Cadets and unplaced in Junior Men U/66kg

  • Bianca Tandean - Silver medal Cadets and unplaced in Junior Women U/57kg

Congratulations to Team Budokan's Bjorn Tandean and Bernhard Tandean on their well-earned Bronze medal at the World Kata Championships in the Junior category of Katame-No-Kata (Ne-Waza or groundwork kata).
